The Impact of COVID-19 on Consumer Direction in New York State

July 10, 2020

New York was one of the first states to be hit by the COVID-19 pandemic with nearly half a million reported cases and over 30,000 deaths. Over 40 percent of those deaths have been in nursing home settings.

The Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Association of New York State (CDPAANYS) published a new report that shares findings from a survey of individuals enrolled in New York’s Consumer Directed Personal Assistance (CDPA) program and their authorized representatives on the impact of COVID-19. The report includes insights about the impact to respondents’ services, their self-assessment for personal and worker infection risk, availability of workers, their level of concern about being institutionalized, and their access to personal protective equipment (PPE).

As other states face rising cases, it may be helpful to learn from the impact of COVID-19 on self-direction in New York.
