The NCI-IDD IPS is the largest and most representative data on the characteristics and outcomes of people with IDD who use state-funded services. In 2022-23, more than 25,000 people receiving services from 33 states participated in the survey. People come from diverse backgrounds in terms of race and ethnicity, age, communication preferences, type of residence, urbanicity, and more. Each year, we ask people about access to and participation in their community, choice and control, relationships, and more.
The report offers many takeaways on employment, community inclusion and belonging and workforce. Of those surveyed, 17% of people report using a self-directed supports option. Among those, 15% of people say they mostly make the decisions about services that are self-directed and 40% say they have input and family/friends help with decisions.

The findings indicate a number of areas in which outcomes for people with IDD are relatively promising and there are other areas that have more mixed results.
