Addressing Racial Disparities in Self-Direction: A Panel Discussion

In recent years, there has been scant research examining the extent of racial disparities in access to and use of self-direction programs. While existing research does confirm disparities exist, further study is needed. Dr. Chanee Fabius, a leading researcher on racial disparities in home and community-based services, shared insights from her latest research. Then, she and other panelists representing a range of perspectives (including state government, FMS, academia/advocacy) discussed what is known about racial disparities in self-direction, how to advance further research, and strategies to address these disparities.
