Reflections on Self-Directing During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Researchers from the Lurie Institute for Disability Policy at Brandeis University recently published a study on how people who self-direct received help during the pandemic, protected themselves from the coronavirus, and stayed healthy. Michael Atkins, one of the researchers, presented the key findings from this study during the 2022 National Self-Direction Conference. He was joined by panelists from across the country with experience responding to the pandemic in their respective roles as parents, Financial Management Services (FMS) providers, state administrators, and support brokers. This group also discussed the implications of the pandemic for people self-directing now and in the future.
